Well, you've all had your say and it seems the community wants Shadows Over Vathak. I figured I would give this another day to cook so that a more representative slice of the site could have their say. I'm about to go take a nap, but rest assured that I'll be back in a few hours to see where this thread goes, if anywhere. There's not a ton of free stuff out there for it, but I do have a fanmade primer if people are interested in the setting. The world is ravaged by the aftermath of the conflict, with things like an ocean of blood seeping from an imprisoned Titan and entire species of titanspawned creatures stalking the wilds in search of prey. The Scarred Lands is a high fantasy world set 150 years after the Divine War between the Gods and Titans. It's a bit darker than Ravenloft, more akin to Bloodborne than, say, Van Hellsing. Comparing it to Ravenloft is reductive in a way, but there's a free primer out there for the setting on websites like Paizo and Drivethrurpg, so I encourage you to pick that up if you want to know more. Shadows Over Vathak is similar to Ravenloft, but with Lovecraftian elements and none of the Dark Powers, Darklords, and such. The old Fraternity of Shadows site even has a nice FAQ that explains the gist of the setting's eccentricities in a neat and concise manner. There are lots of free supplements out there that were made by fans to both improve the setting and to provide newbies with information on it. You can expect pretty much everything from gothic horror like werewolves and vampires to be represented in Ravenloft. In it is a world divided into separate lands ruled by powerful beings known as Darklords, blessed and cursed in ways commensurate to their sins by entities known as the Dark Powers. Ravenloft is an old gothic horror setting out of AD&D. I can't really link pages right now since I'm a new poster, but a little Google-fu can help you if you want to learn more about these. Have you all heard of these settings and, if so, are you interested in one in particular?įor those not in the know, I'll give brief descriptions. I'm looking to GM a game and I was thinking about running a campaign set in Ravenloft, Shadows Over Vathak, or the Scarred Lands.
